About the Conference

Gerontology, the study of aging, has become a major focus of attention among different sections of society and institutions. With rising life expectancy and falling birth rates, average age of population is going up. There is increasing service needs for older persons all over the world, with related political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal consequences. Gerontology and Geriatrics (branch that treats the clinical problems of late life) have emerged as fertile area of research and action since last eight decades. With the shifting trend in measuring success of nations from Gross Domestic Product to Gross Happiness Index, it is apt to go by Japanese saying “that is heaven, where the people from children to old age remain in peace and happiness”. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, old people face innumerable problems, that emanate from the way higher education is managed. Accordingly,
the sixth international Gerontology Conference has the theme: 'Youth is a gift and Age is an art: Gerontological Issues and Higher Education". The conference, to be organized by Centurion University, is an extension of the last five conferences held in Japan, Russia and India. Its broad objective is to bring together professionals, academicians and researchers from all over the world to exchange ideas and experiences for effectively addressing the challenges the old people and society face and the role that higher education can play.

Call for Papers

The conference is about gerontological issues and higher education. How can we create confidence, exposure, and opportunities for the old, so that they can look forward to a life with dignity? Many institutions and individuals are addressing old age issues. This conference is about sharing such stories –the experiments tried, the ones that showed results and the ones that succeeded; also, the ones that did not succeed. We invite you to share your perspectives – your experiments, your wisdom from experience, your experiences on what has worked or not worked and why. While the conventional presence and participation is still the norm, we would welcome non-conventional modes of participation as well if you are unable to come in person, e.g. you can write a blog for us, or you can send us a video; and anything else that supports the purpose of the conference. Since we are looking at non-traditional but impacting ways to learn, we believe the conference also must include such modes of input. The conference will feature an effort to learn from stakeholder communities such as children, youth and religious bodies.

Themes for the conference include, but not limited to:

  • Biological, Physical and Social Environment and Aging
  • Aging, Mental Health and Quality of Life
  • Institutional Issues in Gerontology and Geriatrics
