A better understanding of the effects of salinity on pearl millet and mechanisms stress tolerance are vital for breeding new salinity stress tolerant cultivars. Tolerant line ICMB 01222 had a higher growth rate. Total soluble sugar content was higher in the salinity stressed tolerant pearl millet susceptible line (1.6 time higher). Sugar metabolism related pathways were highly expressed in tolerant line than susceptible line.
