Local Biodiversity in Planning and Development

Local Biodiversity included in Planning and Development

Centurion University is dedicated to fostering ecosystem conservation and restoration through sustainable building practices. Our commitment is to ensure that all new construction and renovation projects harmonise with the existing topography and natural landscape of the campus.

 Implementation Strategies:

Topographical Harmony: All building projects are meticulously planned to align with the natural topography of the campus. This approach reduces soil erosion, minimises disruption to existing ecosystems, and helps maintain the natural hydrological cycle, which supports local biodiversity.

Water Conservation: Our buildings incorporate water-saving technologies such as low-flow fixtures, rainwater harvesting systems, and greywater recycling. These measures reduce water consumption and support sustainable water management practices

Collaboration of the Local Community with student research farms:

Centurion University has established three strategically located farms—Bagushala, Ranadevi, totagumuda and Gandahati—serving as dynamic hubs for research, practical learning, and sustainable agriculture. Bagushala, 10 km from campus, features a dedicated lab for hands-on experience in crop development, while Ranadevi, just 5 km away, focuses on agri-engineering education and plans for a new learning center. The 12-acre Gandahati farm, near a popular tourist spot, integrates agriculture with tourism, enhancing local economic contributions. All farms prioritize organic farming practices, cultivating diverse crops like rice, maize, and millets, and are committed to restoring soil health through sustainable methods

Energy Efficiency: Buildings are designed with advanced energy-efficient systems, including passive solar design, high-performance insulation, and energy-efficient HVAC systems. This reduces the overall energy demand and supports the university’s goal of minimizing energy consumption.

Use of Electric Vehicle: At Centurion University, eco-friendly transportation is promoted across the campus through the use of electric vehicles (EVs), which are not only utilized for internal operations but also manufactured and sold by the university. These EVs are deployed across various units, including the electric, fan, and water units, to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability. By integrating these vehicles into daily campus activities, the university supports a greener environment, while also encouraging students and staff to adopt green technologies.
