Nagesh Kolagani

Dr. Nagesh Kolagani works on participatory GIS, drones, machine learning, and modeling, simplifying their tools for use by farmers, NGO field staff, and students in their village development efforts.
He has been organizing workshops and sessions on participatory modeling since 2012 at the biannual congresses of an international society: iemss.org, and was admitted as its Fellow in 2023: iemss.org/awards.
Publications: He has published several papers in international journals: Scopus Profile , and was guest editor of a special issue of JEMA on participatory modeling in 2024: ScienceDirect.
Since 2024, he has been teaching an NPTEL+ course on ‘GIS, Drones, and Machine Learning for Resource Mapping’: NPTEL Course.
Academic and Professional Background:
He joined CUTM in 2019 as a Professor of CSE and CUTMAP in 2024 as Dean, Research & Innovation.
Previously, he worked as:
- Associate Professor of CSE at IIIT Sri City (2016-19)
- Project Scientist at IIT Madras (2007-10 & 2012-16)
- Software Engineer in the USA (1992-95)
He is an alumnus of IIT Madras (BTech, 1988 & PhD, 2016) and the University of Hawaii (MS, 1992).
